The Boole Library currently have a display of archival materials related to Frederick Douglass in their Rare Books Reading Room. If you cannot visit this fascinating resource in person, you can view the online display. It includes a Dublin printing of the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave.
This comes soon after DARIAH Ireland organised a #DouglassDay transcribe-a-thon in UCC as part of Douglass Day and Black History Month in on the 14th of February 2018. UCC librarian, Elaine Harrington attended the event and informed us about the Douglass edition and we are delighted to now see it on display.
It showcases yet another link between Frederick Douglass and Cork, a topic that Prof Lee Jenkins (Head of the School of English, UCC) and Dr Ann Coughlan (Graduate of English, UCC) have researched and published on (see HERE and HERE). The display also includes some information about the DARIAH event. We are very happy to see these links forming between our outreach events and other areas of the University.
