It is part of the European ERC project From Stage to Data, led by Clarisse Bardiot, and brings together two rapidly developing fields: digital art history and culture analytics.

The Arts and Digital Humanities seminar has three objectives: to explore the foundations of the digital humanities and their applications to the arts, particularly the performing arts; to analyze the scientific and ethical challenges of using digital data in research; and to introduce participants to the latest work in the field through presentations by recognized researchers. The program brings together specialists in the digital arts and humanities with historians, philosophers and researchers in the humanities whose work directly informs our discussions. Each year, an artist is also invited to present a practice related to digital technology.

The seminar is aimed at Master’s and PhD students, as well as artists and cultural professionals. No previous experience in data analysis is required. The sessions, which last two hours and are sometimes held in English, take place both in person and online (via Zoom). The presentation (lasting approximately one hour) is followed by a discussion and then a social gathering.

The sessions will be recorded and made available on the From Stage to Data website and YouTube channel: https://stage-to-data.huma-num.fr

The full program is available at the following address: https://stage-to-data.huma-num.fr/en/events/arts&HN/

19/10 – Andreas Aristidou, University of Cyprus, CYENS Center of Excellence

Performing Arts in the Digital Age: Capture, Analysis, Visualization, and Interaction with XR Technologies

02/11 – Peter Broadwell & Michael Rau, Stanford University

Reworking Similarity and Consensus in Pose-Based Analyzes of Theater Recordings

23/11 – Nick Crossley, University of Manchester

Investigating Event Networks

07/12 – Pantelis Michelakis, Director of the Archive of Performances of Greek and Roman Drama

Patterns of Performance: Computational Audiovisual Analysis and the Transformation of Theater Historiography

18/01 – Lise Jaillant, Loughborough University

Pressing Matters: Artificial intelligence, natural history, and co-creation using cultural data

01 / 02 – Ulla Kallenbach, University of Bergen & Anna Lawaetz, Royal Danish Library

The theatrical gaze and digital humanities: text, performance, archives

22/02 – Johanna Drucker, UCLA

Affective, Experiential, and other Non-Standard Metrics for Visualization in the Humanities

15/03 – Nicola Carboni, University of Illinois

From Pixels to Context: knowledge graphs for visual objects

05/04 – Pierre Couprie, University of Évry Paris-Saclay

The musicologist’s digital laboratory: from instrumented listening to multimodal analysis environments

The Arts and Cultural Data This seminar explores the challenges and applications of this field for the study of the arts and cultural data.
