Free Text Encoding Workshop

On Friday 15 May, Queen’s University Belfast is hosting a free day-long workshop introducing attendees to text encoding with TEI. The workshop will run from 10.00 to 17.00 and offer a condensed overview of scholarly text encoding within a humanities or digital humanities context.

Designed for students interested in using text encoding as an academic tool, the programme will explore text markup using XML, explain the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) Guidelines, and touch upon important issues with digital representations of text. The workshop will include presentations, discussions and hands-on exercises.

No prior experience with markup languages or text encoding is required, and participants are asked to bring their own WiFi-enabled laptop with the lasted version of Oxygen XML Editor (a free trial version is available). More information and registration details can be found on QUB’s website.
