This workshop responds to a need to equip digital preservation professionals, archivists, librarians, data managers, and researchers with essential technical skills to efficiently clean, standardise, and enrich metadata to streamline their workflows and expand the reach of their collections.

We will be delving into:

  • Identifying and resolving issues in messy metadata using OpenRefine
  • Crosswalking between metadata schemas
  • Implementing preservation metadata guidance such as PREMIS

Building on our attendance at the UK-Ireland Digital Humanities Association Annual Event, focused on Sustainability, as well as recent developments in the sector focused on carbon literacy and environmentally conscious digital preservation practices, we will be offering a survey of available guidance, toolkits, and projects to look forward to that can guide your sustainability planning.

This will also serve as a discussion space where you can share your experiences of implementing sustainable practices at your institution.

Gamifying Digital Preservation: An Introductory Twine Workshop

The Digital Repository of Ireland is hosting a webinar on May 12th that may be of interest if you’re planning on attending their DPASSH (Digital Preservation in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities) conference in late June! 

This 2 hour online workshop led by Francesca Mackenzie (National Archives UK), Lotte Wijsman and Susanne van den Eijkel (National Archives NL) is designed to guide participants in creating text‑based adventure games using Twine, a free and accessible tool for building interactive stories. Prompts, templates, and example structures will be provided to help participants shape their projects and develop their skills. Alongside technical learning, the workshop encourages a playful approach to thinking about digital preservation challenges, offering a creative space to re‑imagine familiar workflows and concepts.

The Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) is pleased to present a new series of talks designed to de-mystify the day-to-day work of a digital repository. Our ‘Meet the Experts’ series will be designed around short talks and provide extended opportunity for discussion with staff and invited experts on various topics related to DRI’s work.

In this session, DRI Senior Software Engineer Dr Kathryn Cassidy will demonstrate DRI’s web archiving tool. Participants will leave with practical tips for preparing websites of all shapes and sizes for long-term preservation.

Audience

We invite anyone involved in the creation and/or management of a website in which they share research and engage audiences with digital social and cultural heritage resources. We further encourage anyone who would like to learn more about our work at DRI to attend.
